Kathmandu, September 22, 2025 – Prime Minister Sushila Karki has appointed seasoned journalist Jagdish Kharel as the new Minister for Communications and Information Technology. The appointment was announced on Sunday evening, recognizing Kharel’s extensive contributions to the media industry.
With over 25 years of experience in journalism, Kharel’s expertise in the field has been highlighted as a key factor in his selection for this critical portfolio. He is set to take the oath of office and secrecy on Monday at a ceremony held at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas.
This appointment comes alongside other significant developments in Kathmandu. On the same day, four newly appointed ministers were sworn in, with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, in attendance. Meanwhile, the capital is bustling as 189,218 travelers have left the city over the past five days ahead of the Dashain festivities. Additionally, floods and landslides have disrupted transportation, blocking six national highways across Nepal.
